Explore The Great Outdoors
Whether you meander at a sedate pace with toddlers in tow, or charge around after rabble-rousing young teenagers, the Cornish landscape is the perfect playground for children of all ages.
Walks which take in Cornwall’s coast, moorland, woodland and riversides are a great adventure, an opportunity to discover wildlife and perhaps even indulge in some wild swimming!
Take a picnic with you, or choose a route which ends at a pub, where you are likely to discover excellent child-friendly menus which make the most of local produce.
If The Beach Is Your Thing….
Cornwall’s beaches are a jewel in the crown of this maritime peninsula. They are plentiful and varied – from child-friendly stretches of sand with all the facilities close by, to isolated coves you could have all to yourself for the day.
However, if you have young children and plan to go in the sea, always use a beach with lifeguard cover (provided at 20 of Cornwall’s beaches and only during peak season) and abide by their safety notices. Also remember that it’s easy to get in trouble – be careful where you walk and always be aware of the tides times and high waves.
You can find out more about the beaches near Looe here.
When The Weather Takes A Turn
Gone are the days when a rainy day meant a game of Scrabble and the inevitable argument. Cornwall has plenty of major attractions with indoor activities, including The Eden Project, Flambards, Newquay Zoo, The Blue Reef Aquarium, The National Maritime Museum, Land’s End and Bodmin and Wenford Railway to name just a few.
If you’re looking for something a little different and less crowded, why not try making new friends at Screech Owl Sanctuary at St Columb, or explore Carnglaze Caverns – a series of manmade caverns formed as part of a slate quarry in the Loveny Valley, near Liskeard.
Go Wild Around Looe
One of our favourite family-friendly activities within a short distance of The Fieldhead Hotel is Wild Futures, a monkey sanctuary set in beautiful woodland where the whole family can enjoy a fun and educational day out while supporting the work of this great charity.
Also just 15 minutes from Looe is Porfell Wildlife Sanctuary. Cornwall’s biggest collection of exotic animals is home to more than 250 individuals – including Meerkats, Lemurs, Giant Tortoise, Porcupines and Raccoons – from around the world who are looked after here after being neglected, injured, imported illegally or simply discarded by their owners.
It’s easy to explore all of Cornwall from your base at The Fieldhead Hotel. We can offer plenty of help and advice on where to visit – we will be happy to help you arrange a family holiday which is memorable for all the right reasons!
