No pain no gain…. The Fieldhead Hotel is visited by The Hotel Inspector!

It’s been an anxious few months here at The Fieldhead Hotel as we awaited the start of the new series of The Hotel Inspector – featuring our very own hotel in Looe in the first episode which you can watch here.

Following the visit from hotel guru Alex Polizzi last autumn we were inspired to update our offering, and have made significant changes to the hotel in line with Alex’s advice.

It’s been a learning curve for us as we have come to terms with the changes we needed to make in order to attract a new generation of visitors.

Although Alex didn’t hold back in her efforts to convince us to “modernise and simplify darling!” we were buoyed by her comments at the end as she left saying: “Overall this is very positive; I am quite amazed at what we have managed to achieve.”

Alex helped us see things in terms of traditional – which we are unashamedly – and old-fashioned – which is what we were rapidly becoming.

As a result of Alex’s intervention, we now have a new website, redecorated rooms and updated communal areas, and provide free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel; it’s also a lot easier to book online and avoid the dreaded tariff card!

We still describe ourselves as traditional, but we’ve acknowledged that in some areas modern touches were required, for example we are now active on social media; however we stick by our high service standards as a tradition that we will not be doing away with!

Malcolm Bell, Chief Executive of Visit Cornwall, kindly gave his views on our efforts to reinvigorate The Fieldhead Hotel: “It is not easy for small family businesses to keep up with the demands of modern visitors – who have every kind of review and comparison website at their fingertips – but it is vital that they don’t get left behind as Cornwall competes as a tourist destination on the world stage.”

He added: “However Cornwall is also known for its great diversity and individuality – in updating their facilities or marketing hotels don’t have to lose their unique personality along the way.”

We are now looking forward to the 2015 season – this is The Fieldhead at its best now and our view of the future is very positive.

We hope you will come and experience the changes for yourself!
